WHAT IS ART?

Art comes in many forms, and at Galleria Texana, we offer both original, signed, and unsigned pieces. Original art refers to works created by the artist's hand, while signed art includes the artist's signature, adding a personal touch to the piece. Unsigned art, while still valuable, may lack the signature but retains the artist's original intent and craftsmanship.

Restored Art involves modifications made to preserve or enhance a piece that has suffered damage over time. The quality of restoration, as well as its history, is often documented in curated art collections to provide transparency to buyers.

WHAT ARE ANTIQUES & ARTIFACTS

  • Antiques are items that are at least fifty (50) years old, holding historical and aesthetic value. These items are sought after for their craftsmanship, rarity, and connection to a bygone era.

  • Artifacts represent objects of cultural or historical significance, often tied to a specific heritage. These items provide insight into past civilizations and are cherished for their storytelling.

In some cases, art can also be considered an artifact if it reflects a cultural or historical significance.

WHAT ARE COLLECTIBLES?

Collectibles are typically items that are less than fifty (50) years old. They hold value due to their popularity, rarity, or nostalgic appeal but may not yet qualify as antiques. Collectibles can range from toys and memorabilia to limited-edition art prints.

WHAT IS A REPRODUCTION?

Reproductions are copies of original art, created with the intent to replicate the design, size, and materials of the original. These may be signed or marked by the artist or manufacturer, and while they resemble the original, they may differ in subtle ways based on the production methods used.

Reproductions often appeal to buyers who appreciate the style of an original piece but at a more accessible price point. However, the key difference lies in the resale value, as original pieces tend to appreciate more over time.

Authenticity and Reproductions

When purchasing art, antiques, or artifacts, it’s important to verify the authenticity of the piece. Many buyers purchase reproductions, not always realizing they are not originals. Sourcing materials and evaluating the craftsmanship can help determine whether an object is genuine or a reproduction.

Understanding these distinctions ensures that buyers make informed decisions and know the true value of their purchases.
